Overview

Deputy Headteacher

Start date: Ideally January 2022 or later by negotiation

Carleton High School is an 11-16 school in Pontefract with over 1000 students on roll which has been on a journey of significant improvement in recent years. This has resulted in a Good Ofsted judgement (2018), record GCSE results, recognition as the most improved school in the North of England and now in the top 1% of most improved schools in the country for pupil progress. The school is committed to improving further and there is a fantastic opportunity to join as Deputy Headteacher and to be a key part of the team, building on this success so that the school continues its journey to become Outstanding.

A key element of future improvements will be the leadership of Safeguarding, Inclusion and SEND. The successful candidate will enhance the senior leadership team by being empowered to lead the strategic development of these areas so that the provision for all learners is exceptional. While experience in these areas is important you must be ready to lead with warmth and dynamism, but also with total clarity, relentless consistency and a refusal to accept anything other than the very highest possible standards.

Pontefract Academies Trust is a cross-phase Multi Academy Trust comprising six primary schools and two 11-16 secondary schools all located within a 3-mile radius. Uniquely, the vast majority of pupil’s progress form one of the trust primary schools to one of its secondary schools. There is a recognition that each school is individual, with different priorities, and needs to respond to the needs of its local community to provide the best possible opportunity for its young people. The uniqueness however also creates exciting opportunities for innovative thinking in terms of practice, curriculum and teaching and learning with excellent opportunities for meaningful collaboration at all levels with the focus on improving the life chances of the young people in the schools communities.

Your professional development will be a key priority and you will have the support of a network of highly skilled and experienced senior leaders. Alongside this will be the opportunities that will inevitably present themselves from being a successful leader within a developing trust.

If you have a proven track record of working strategically at a senior leadership level to deliver successful whole school change this is a fantastic opportunity to join a school with huge potential and to be part of a thriving and supportive trust. The ethos of the school and the Trust is simple – to ensure every pupil makes outstanding progress and are given the chance in life they deserve. You must share that commitment and be passionate about making a difference to pupil’s lives by providing the highest quality of education. You must be comfortable with high levels of accountability and whilst displaying compassion, you will work with colleagues to identify innovative ways to continually improve practice and performance. Your positive, can-do spirit will engage and inspire pupils, staff and parents/carers. Above all else, you must like children and young people, and aspire to make them outstanding citizens.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
