Overview

Head of French Department (maternity cover)

Required for: January 2021

This Role:

We need to appoint an outstanding French teacher to lead a small, hardworking team within the Languages Faculty. You will have a track-record teaching French across the age and ability range at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 and be able to offer Spanish at Key Stage 3. Experience of preparing students for French GCSE and A Level is essential. We want a strong team player, a motivated self-starter who will support staff and students to fulfil their potential. The faculty teaches Hebrew, French, Spanish, & Latin: all students learn French & Hebrew from Year 7 and have the option to swap one of those for Spanish or Latin in Year 8. There is good up-take for study at GCSE and A Level and students achieve exceptionally well in public examination in all Languages. We are a warm and welcoming group of professionals who work collaboratively and supportively, sharing a passion for language learning and a calm, positive, can-do attitude. You will be joining experienced professionals who can offer support and advice if this is your first time moving into a HoD role, but it is equally suitable for those with HoD experience to complement the strengths of the existing team.

JCoSS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all its staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All posts are subject to satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance.

We embrace the entire Jewish community regardless of affiliation or observance, teaching the full range of Jewish beliefs, practices and values. Your child will learn in a way that affirms and enhances his or her faith, background and tradition.

We encourage curious minds to ‘think otherwise’. We seek to spark brilliance in all our students and inspire them to become articulate, informed, confident and motivated young people, qualified and equipped for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
