About Kirk Balk Academy

At Kirk Balk, we can provide the kind of education that will provide all this and more - in short, the ideal launch pad for career development and future success.

You only get one chance in life and it is our responsibility to ensure that at Kirk Balk Academy, each student has the best possible education - whatever their starting point.

We achieve this by having high expectations of teaching staff and students as well as focusing on the importance of always striving to do better; to try harder. At the same time we are determined to deliver an all round educational experience which sets us apart from other schools and makes us amongst the best nationally and internationally.

We want students to wear their uniform with pride; to show an eagerness to learn and enjoy playing their part within the whole school society. We expect our students to be polite and well behaved at all times, arriving punctually for every lesson and showing consideration for others.

Because there is such a positive atmosphere at Kirk Balk, it is exciting. Students feel empowered to achieve their goals and be whatever they want to be. It is why Kirk Balk Academy is fast becoming the place to be in Barnsley.

We are so much more than an exams factory. We are not only one of the best resourced schools in the region with a multi-million pound campus, which is equipped with the very best learning, cultural and recreational facilities; we believe it is just as important to develop well-rounded, respectful and honest citizens who can adapt successfully in an ever changing world.

By choosing Kirk Balk, parents can be certain they are selecting the best school for their child; one where they will not only succeed academically, but will benefit from a wide range of extracurricular activities and opportunities.

As a student, in choosing Kirk Balk, you will be coming to a school that has a stimulating and exciting environment - where we will not only do our level best to ensure you achieve yours, but one where you will also have the time of your life.

In March 2015 we became part of the Northern Education Trust, a multi-academy trust, which provides us with additional resource and expertise. It means we are able to share best practice with other member academies throughout the northern region and this gives us a tremendous advantage. Our results are improving rapidly and behaviour and attendance are excellent.

In September 2015 we introduced our house system which gives students greater opportunity for personal development and has helped to foster an ethos of "family", unity and support.

We are totally committed to raising the aspirations of all our learners, helping them to achieve the kind of exam results and good social skills which will be an asset to them throughout life.
