About St Martin's School
St Martin’s is a large co-educational comprehensive school located in Hutton, Brentwood. The school is on one site with extensive grounds which also include a large sixth form block. Parking is available on-site and there are good transport links by both rail and bus. There is also heavily subsidised residential accommodation available on-site, priority is given to newly qualified staff in the allocation of rooms within the staff houses.
Achievement at St Martin's School is outstanding. In 2015 80% of students achieved 5 A*-C grades including English and Mathematics at GCSE. In English 92% of all students achieved at least a C grade and in Mathematics this was 89%. 77% of disadvantaged students achieved 5A*- C including English and Mathematics which equated to a gap of 3% between Pupil Premium and non Pupil Premium students. Most Able students achieved a pass rate of 98% at GCSE with 45% of grades being awarded at A or A*. At A Level the school has a 97% pass rate with 38% of all grades awarded at either A*-B grade. A number of A level students go on to study at Russell Group universities in subjects such as Medicine, Veterinary Science and Law. Students arrive at the school in Year 7 with an average point score greater than 29.0. All students follow an accelerated KS3 programme in English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, beginning KS4 work at the start of Year 9. Learning and teaching is supported by a deputy head of faculty, and regular meetings to improve the teaching practice of all staff.
