The governors of this popular Catholic school are seeking to appoint enthusiastic and highly motivated Teachers of Science, specifically a Physicist and a Chemist, who have the highest expectations of themselves and their children. About St Thomas More Catholic School
Welcome to our school, St Thomas More Catholic School, Willenhall. Our community ethos is based on love of God and love of neighbour, we respect and help each other to be the very best we can. Visitors to our school always remark on how well our students behave and how polite they are. Our teachers work passionately to do their very best for our students academically and pastorally, we are always seeking to further improve. Exams are important but we also seek to provide enrichment opportunities including trips, arts, sporting activities within a framework of continuous spiritual growth.
In 2015 our hard working pupils produced their best ever GCSE and A-level results this year as the school’s insistence on diligence and excellence reaped rewards. At GCSE, results have increased; 71.6% gained A* to C in English and 62% in mathematics. Over 70% of students gained A* to C in a wide range of subjects including history, geography, German, PE and computer science.
These are the best public examination results in the school’s history and are testament to a relentless concentration on each individual student’s needs and, working closely with parents and carers, in meeting these needs and thereby ensuring success. We have continually examined how we might enable each pupil to realise their full potential. Success at both GCSE and A-level begins from the day each child enters the school at the age of 11 and not just from a focus on the examination. We are aiming to get better and better.
The philosophy is supported not only by inspirational staff, but also by superb facilities across an attractive campus in Bilston which opened in 2003.
It boasts a dedicated chapel, state-of-the-art learning resource centre, a large sports hall, enhanced ICT provision, several ICT suites, purpose built, designed and furnished classrooms, a drama area, a sixth from study centre, a 250-seat theatre and assembly hall, climbing wall and fitness suite.
The school has also just opened a bistro specifically aimed at Year 12 and 13 students. The bistro provides extra student facilities including Wi-Fi and access to wider general knowledge of world events and current affairs which is a necessity in today’s world. We were delighted that our AS and A2 results improved significantly in 2015, our results were externally judged as ‘Excellent’ in terms of student progress and teaching at AS. We were also delighted that some departments including further Maths and Drama produced outcomes that were in top 1% nationally for student progress. We hope that most of our students will stay with us for the full seven years of their education, there are a broad range of courses available and our successes have led to our sixth form recruiting 300 students, one of the largest school sixth forms in the region.
